That is a really great thing for them to do, finally someone realizes that those things are far to expensive for the people that usually need them the most.

$895 is a pretty hefty price for a student, though no doubt well worth it. I think the price cut is a great thing and like you said, they deserve credit for doing so.
This design should stick for awhile and is a hint at what the next Shifting Creations layout will look like. Changing the portfolio layout already? You bet. As I think most designers would attest, designing your personal website will often undergo multiple changes before one is satisfied.
